from kcbs moneywatch reporter jason brooks after this break. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, >>> waking up to cloud cover around the bay area but a warmup this afternoon. this afternoon 70s inland. the bay should see clouds clear out and mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the mid- 60s. at the coast keeping it cool today, only in the mid-50s and breezy conditions as well along the coastline. now, that low is still in the picture now keeping us cool. high pressure will bring us hot weather next week. this is your forecast through other parts of northern. sacramento today high of 80 mostly sunny skies. hot in redding at 88, fresno 87. yosemite cooler at 80. definitely cooler in monterey and fog only making it to 63 there today. highs for the bay area, keeping them between 7 and 16 degrees below average for this time of year. 75 is the high in fairfield. 70 in livermore. oakland making it to 65 today. san rafael 68. very cool in pacifica only 59 there today. now, this warming trend will be gradual for the next couple of days over your weekend. there will be sunshine in the inland locat

in the uk. news corp executive rebecca brooks has resigned in the wake of a massive media scandal. she oversaw "news of the world" the london tabloid that ceased publication after it was accused of hacking into voicemails of celebrities and crime victims. now, one of those crime victims was a 13-year-old girl who was later found murdered. news corp chairman rupert murdoch plans to meet with that girl's family today. >>> the city of oakland will lose dozens more employees. under the new budget, the tribune says 56 city workers are losing their jobs this month and more cuts are coming. the police department will lose 48 positions next year. two firehouses will be closed daily starting next summer and pay for elected officials is being cut by 15%. >>> in other bay area headlines, a pedestrian is hospitalized with serious injuries after being hit by a bicyclist on san francisco's embarcadero. police say that the woman in her 40s was in the crosswalk at mission street and crossing legally when she was struck. she suffered a head injury. the cyclist stayed at the scene but may face charges.

the holiday weekend from jason brooks when we come back. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, >>> good morning, bay area! if you are just getting going, we have a lot of sunshine come our way, mostly clear around the bay area, some fog at the coast. otherwise sunny skies on the way. temperatures by this afternoon going to be warm to hot in spots inland. 80s and mid-90s in the warmest spots inland. plenty of 70s inside the bay and 60s at the coastline. much warmer weekend coming in our direction as high pressure is building overhead. the offshore winds are blowing and it is going to be cooking in some parts of the bay area. going to get hot into fresno today 97 there. 94 in sacramento. 91 yosemite. and 76 degrees in lake tahoe. these temperatures warming up in a hurry today. 86 in san jose. 84 in fremont. about 66 degrees much more comfortable in half moon bay. east bay numbers up in the mid- 90s in the warmest spots. 70s a couple of 80s inside the bay. and as you look toward the north bay, temperatures in the 60s coastside. but away from the coast, the heat is cranked up, up to 90s inland. next couple o

and it looks like unemployment lines are getting longer. >> with more on that here's jason brooks with kcbs and cbsmoneywatch.com. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. unfortunately, weekly unemployment claims surged higher last week up 10,000 to 418,000. this following a pretty big drop the week before which had sort of given us some optimism that perhaps the market was going to head the right way but this has been indicativity past three months to get a drop one week and then heading higher the next week after that. we have yet to see claims fall below 400,000 in the past three months. need to be below that point to indicate that job hiring is going under way in an ernest fashion. so that's a problem for the markets. a lot of earnings are out including a number from the silicon valley. intel reporting that it saw its profit increase 2% to $2.9 billion. its profit would have been higher if not for a couple of major purchases buying mcafee as well as infineon. and intel does say that it's seen an increase in shipped sales to pc makers selling their pcs toists with as well as an increase
